Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor, Maine | Family Portrait Photographer |
After months of isolation and barely leaving our neighborhood due COVID-19, we decided a change of scenery was in order! We wanted to avoid flying and we also wanted to avoid multiple hotel stays. I researched quite a few different vacation spots on the east coast and really wanted to visit a location that was brand new to all of us. We love the beach, but we also love the mountains and decided that Acadia National Park offered both!
I'm not going to lie....the drive was looooooong!! But we made it in one piece and we were still talking to each other by the time we arrived in Bar Harbor, Maine. We got in late to the Bar Harbor Grand Hotel and the staff was amazing!! They helped us get settled in and brought each of our girls a little stuffed animal, which they absolutely loved!
On our first day, we followed Google Maps to the Sand Beach entrance of the park where we purchased our park pass for the week. We then drove the 27 mile Park Loop Road, which is the primary avenue for navigating through Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island. Our first views of the cliffs were absolutely breathtaking...the girls were ecstatic!!!
Over the course of the week, we hiked the Gorham Mountain Trail, South Bubble Mountain, Jordan Pond Loop Trail, Great Head Hike, Otter Cliff, Wonderland Trails and Ship Harbor Trails. We also visited the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse and drove to the top of Cadillac Mountain, which is the highest point on the east coast of the United States.
One of our favorite restaurants while visiting Bar Harbor was The Thirsty Whale Tavern and our favorite ice cream shop was Ben and Bill's Chocolate Emporium. I know everyone said we had to try the infamous Maine lobster rolls, which we did, but they were just not our favorite (they are served cold).
On our very last day, we spent some time visiting the town of Bar Harbor (pronounced Bah Hahbah). It is absolutely adorable and has the cutest shops! They were extremely careful with COVID-19...everyone wore face masks and they limited the number of customers inside stores.
Overall, our trip to Acadia National Park was definitely THE highlight of the year and would highly recommend a trip there (preferable in the summer as winters may be a bit chillly...lol!)!!
